Julie Angus is an adventurer, bestselling writer and motivational speaker. In 2005, after 10,000 km and five months on the open ocean, Julie became the first woman to row across the Atlantic Ocean from mainland to mainland. She was named National Geographic’s Adventurer of the Year for 2007, and has appeared on CBC Sunday News, Canada AM, Discovery Channel’s Daily Planet, and The Current with Anna Maria Tremonti. She is the author of Rowboat in a Hurricane and Rowed Trip, and producer of an award winning documentary. Her writing and photography have appeared in numerous publications including, Reader’s Digest, Men’s Journal, Outside Magazine, The Globe & Mail, and others. Before her career in adventure, Julie studied and developed treatments for heart disease, cancer and genetic ailments. She has two undergraduate degrees with honours from McMaster University (Biology and Psychology) and a graduate degree in Molecular Biology from the University of Victoria.

Julie lives on Vancouver Island with her husband and is working on a book about her family’s olive farm in Syria and ancient desert routes once used to trade the oil.
